Vancouver Christmas Market

Why Go?

Well to eat, drink, and be merry of course! The Vancouver Christmas Market is wrapping up it’s 8th season on Dec 24th. So scamper over and explore this German inspired winter wonderland while you still can! There’s plenty to be distracted by as you wander through this village of scrumptious eats, crafty feats and boozy treats. I highly suggest getting yourself a rummy mulled wine to sip on before you jump on Vancouver’s only Christmas Carousel. I personally relish any moment I can enjoy childish pleasures while taking full advantage of adult liberties!

The Food

I was lucky enough to visit the Vancouver Christmas Marke ttwice this season. Although even that was not enough to enjoy the entire smorgasboard. With an array of hearty German delicacies, you will walk away full, regardless of what you choose to chomp on.  Potato & Cheese perogies were a deliciously familiar choice. These tasty potato pillows got even better when you added the array of Germanic toppings: Grilled onions, tangy sauerkraut, sizzling sausage, sour cream, and hot sauce if you needed some heat on this cold winter night! Stop by one of the beer huts for a pint of Bavarian Beer, you won’t regret it.

Another tasty treat that will keep you warm is the Tender Beef Borscht (which can be found conveniently close to the mulled wine hut). They serve this heart-warming, stomach-filling soup in a bowl of fresh fluffy bread that absorbs the soup and makes for a yummy treat to wrap up your meal. This choice was definitely the crowd pleaser. Heads were turning as I paraded this bread bowl of bounty down the markets wooden alley, back to the Alpine Haus. Although I was initially dismayed that it was in fact, the food turning heads, my woes were carried away with the first bite (or perhaps it was the rummy mulled wine).

The only disappointment I experienced was that I couldn’t fit in any more food. So if you are going to sneak in a visit before the Vancouver Christmas Market closes, bring plenty of friends! Make sure you each get something different and share all the schnitzel, sausage, and stollen the market has to offer. It’s your only hope of experiencing all the scrumptious snacks available.
