I was lucky to find this New Westminster treasure in the attempts of searching out the perfect brunch spot without having to venture too far from home. Located along the at the Quay, Angelina’s Restaurant is a quaint, family run café committed to preparing everything from scratch and utilizing the best ingredients available to do so.
Whether your coming for breakfast, lunch or brunch Angelina’s has something to satisfy everyone. Some of the menu selections include delicious house-made waffles with fresh fruit combinations, luscious eggs benedict with varying protein and veggie options, and traditional Dutch Pannekoeken. Thinner than an American pancake and thicker than a French crepe these delicious sweet or savoury delights are typically about a foot in diameter. This having not been my first Pannekoeken, I could immediately taste that the quality and flavour exceeded any other I had experienced. It quickly was made apparent why the more than 30 minute wait for a table was worth it.
The Pannekoeken I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into was the Banana, Cinnamon and Whipped Cream option. Served with a side of real maple syrup and a gentle dusting of powdered sugar this was an enjoyable pick.
Being as big as it is and wanting to try more than at least one item from the menu I shared my selections with my companion. To my surprise when the waitress informed the kitchen staff of our desire to share they were so very considerate that they divided our choices into perfect halves. We obviously weren’t the firsts to make such a request.
With plenty of food to go around and so many tempting options to decide from we agreed that an Eggs Benedict would be a great addition to our fall afternoon meal. We shared the Vegetarian Spinach, Cheese and Tomato benny which came with a side of roasted rosemary baby potatoes and fresh fruit. This perfectly poached egg sat atop of a warmly toasted English muffin and then was drizzled with a creamy hollandaise sauce. The lightly seasoned, crispy roasted potatoes and freshly cut side of both exotic and local fruit complimented the Benny perfectly.
A most excellent ending to an amazing meal. I can’t hardly wait for my next visit where I plan to try the Peaches and Whipped Cream Waffles. Angelina’s is a new favourite that I plan on returning to again, and again.
