Fergie’s Café is a breakfast and lunch spot serving up simple and sensational comfort food to satisfy the soul. Residing on the grounds of Sunwolf Lodges, this beautifully located hideaway is getting praise for it’s delicious creations. Chef and “Chopped Canada” finalist, Krissy Seymour, prides herself in using only the freshest and local ingredients in her hearty dishes.
It isn’t abnormal for there to be a long line up out the door upon arrival but trust me when I say it is definitely worth the wait. Once reaching the ordering counter my appetite was insistent on me asking for one of everything vegetarian. I managed to show some self control and got the two veggie options to share but did convince myself to indulge in something sweet while I waited. It was difficult to decide between the baked breads and pies on display but the description of Fergie’s “Amazeballz” sold me. A brazil nut, walnut, date, sunflower seed, peanut butter, raisin, chia seed, hemp heart and sesame seed ball seasoned with salt, cayenne and cinnamon. A perfect pairing for my green tea.
Having been fortunate to arrive on a day when the weather permitted, my party and I seated ourselves in the outdoor picnic table area under Fergie’s majestic chestnut tree. This is a popular place for dog owners to allow their Rovers to roam while they enjoy the breathtaking view of Mount Alpha and feast on the fabulous brunch fare. The server finds your table by spotting the painted, wooden spoon that is numbered and given to you when the order is placed. A nice touch and well suited to the theme.
I ordered the Veggie Bowl and my companion got the, also vegetarian, Avocado Benny. The food arrives and it is stunning. Beautifully layered and colourful with the ingredients recognizable and clearly treated with the utmost respect. The Veggie Bowl is made up of braised beans, yam, kale, avocado, tomato and a poached egg with a garnish of crisp sprouts. Warm and pleasantly balanced.
My companion’s Avocado Benny has a lovingness baked into the homemade buttermilk biscuit base that is impossible not to taste. It is topped with goat cheese, avocado, roasted tomato, and beautifully poached eggs blanketed in creamy hollandaise sauce with a side of crispy potato hash. Never a dull bite and impossible not to finish no matter how filling.
This meal was more than worth the travel and wait in line. Fergie’s Cafe is definitely raising the bar and proving that they’re not a force to be wrecking with in the culinary community.
